Mixed ability  |  Winter term programme
Week 1
Birds: Humming birds, parrots, kingfishers etc.
Some of you have mentioned the lovely splashy watercolours of Dean Crouser and Jean Haines. So I thought it might be quite fun to use their work as a jumping off point to producing a loose painterly series of bird paintings. Please have a look at their work online and search for images to work from.

Week 2
Birds: Humming birds, parrots, kingfishers etc. (contd)

Week 3
Skills lesson: Unity of shape

I believe harmony and connection are more important than realism and I try to bring this into my painting more and more. With this project we will be building on our skills to push your painting further. We will practice broad colourful washes on objects that are side by side to create unity.

Week 4
Skills lesson:
Unity of shape

Putting it into practice. I will provide you with some images to work from.

Week 5
Negative painting: Flowers
We touched upon this last term and I thought it might be nice to expand that learning with flowers. So whilst the sun is out and your garden is in full bloom, please take some photo’s for this session of negative painting of flowers.

Half term  |  catch up week
Week 6
Portraits: People of the world
To begin this half term we will be looking at painting people of different nationalities. This give us an opportunity to explore a new and wonderful palette of colours within the face. Please have a look for appropriate photo’s from books, newspapers and the internet.

Week 7
Portraits: People of the world (contd)
Week 8
Skills lesson: Sketchy landscapes
For this project we will be looking at how to make quick, sketchy landscapes, focussing in particular on breaking down a scene into it’s constituent parts. I will provide an initial image to work from, but you can search for others to do perhaps from your own travels.

Week 9
Winter landscapes: Snow scenes
It was suggested that we have a go at a snowy scene, so with Christmas fast approaching, I thought this might be a nice project to end on. In this first week we will have a go at practicing painting snow, with view to doing a final piece of work the following week. Please have a look for images you can work from (no cheesy christmas scenes please!).

Week 10
Winter landscapes: Snow scenes (contd)
